FEMA Engineering Student Elected to Membership in Tau Beta Pi

In April of this year, FEMA employee and engineering student Tyler Farrington was elected to membership in the Michigan Kappa Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. Tyler is a senior mechanical engineering major at Western Michigan University.

Products and components are always growing in complexity and tightening in tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is a part of everyday life. Having the measuring capabilities in place to meet these needs is an important part of any quality system. The addition of a Zeiss ACCURA II coordinate measuring machine (CMM) was a welcome addition here at FEMA Corporation.

Student Greg Bosma Competes in Stryker’s Engineering Challenge

During the last weekend of March, one of our students, Greg Bosma, participated in a two-day engineering competition with his team from Western Michigan University. Hosted for the fifth year by Stryker, the challenge required the teams to create an "autonomous rescue vehicle" by utilizing a robotics kit and a set of other components.

Nikolaus R. Hoyt Receives ASQ Quality Inspector Certification

The Certification Board of ASQ is pleased to announce that Nikolaus R. Hoyt has completed the requirements to be named an ASQ-Certified Quality Inspector, or ASQ CQI.

As such, Nikolaus R. Hoyt has reached a significant level of recognition, indicating a proficiency in and a comprehension of quality principles and practices. Individuals who earn this certification are allowed to use “ASQ CQI” on their business cards and professional correspondence.

“Earning an ASQ certification is more than a great accomplishment - it’s a formal recognition of professionals that they have demonstrated an understanding of, and a commitment to, quality practices in their field,” said ASQ Chair Cecilia Kimberlin. “This distinction represents an investment in ones future and provides a competitive advantage to those who earn ASQ certifications.”

Mattawan Senior Finds Success Through Experience at VBTC

Evan Semrau, a senior at Mattawan High School, is in his second year in Advanced Manufacturing at the Van Buren Technology Center.

Evan has known that he wanted to be an Engineer since he was 10 years old. His Grandfather was a Civil Engineer and his Godfather is an industrial engineer.

As he entered high school, he knew that he wanted to do more than just sit in class. He began researching what companies are looking for in employees. That information, along with his desire to be on his feet participating in hands on activities, led him to enroll in Advanced Manufacturing as a junior. He wanted to position himself as a desirable employee from early on in his educational career. Those desires have certainly paid off.

We at FEMA Corp. are honored to announce that we have received the John Deere Supplier Innovation award for 2013, an award that recognizes suppliers that have demonstrated innovation in a product supplied to John Deere. We received the award for our electromechanical and electrohydraulic devices.
