Applications Engineering Manager
Brief Description:
FEMA Corporation is seeking an Applications Engineering Manager. This position will lead our Applications Engineering team, working closely with all FEMA Engineering, Production Control, and Compliance departments to oversee and develop innovative products and designs for our customers while supporting current business. The Applications Engineering Manager blends technical expertise, new business development, commercial responsibilities, project management, and people management to ensure the company’s goals and mission statement are followed. The Applications Engineering Manager reports to the Business Development Officer. Normal work hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Job Responsibilities
- Project & Team Responsibilities – 40% of time
- Plan, execute, and provide project updates to FEMA management.
- Drive team to meet group and company KPI’s related to growth and customer performance.
- Maintain sales forecast and work closely with team to verify accuracy.
- Coordinate project timelines with stakeholders and cross-functional teams, including continuous improvement and new development activities.
- Accountable for departmental development of solutions based on customer requirements and industry best practices.
- Utilize root cause analysis to identify and resolve complex issues and collaborate with internal teams for development.
- Act as the “Voice of the Customer” at FEMA to ensure customer expectations are understood and exceeded. Understand customer timelines, design goals, and key deliverables throughout a project.
- Coordinate customer response to critical situations such as product quality issues, containments, or recalls.
- Manage labor and equipment resources ensuring projects stay within budget and on schedule.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance project management. Evaluate change risk to customers through critical review of engineering change and internal project requests.
- Consult with Engineering Management on continuous improvement and new development activities.
- Review engineering documents and internal change notifications to determine impact to the customer.
- Customer – 40% of time
- Work closely with key customers through the project lifecycle to execute requests, respond to questions, and build collaboration across the organizations.
- Oversee key program timelines to ensure milestone dates are met and project launches are successful.
- Prepare accurate and competitive customer quotes based on product specifications or technical proposal requests, and market or project targets.
- Directly negotiate commercial issues such as pricing, terms, specifications, and customer contracts. Review and ensure customer metrics accurately reflect performance.
- Build strong relationships within customer organizations, and leverage these relationships to grow FEMA business, explore new opportunities, and foster business growth.
- Travel worldwide to meet with existing and potential customers to provide exemplary support.
- Professionally represent FEMA at trade shows while gaining insight into market trends and competitor developments.
- Conduct customer training to bolster understanding of FEMA products and capabilities.
- Strategic – 20% of time
- Identify new markets in alignment with company growth goal and provide business case to pursue.
- Evaluate resources required to improve team efficiency and performance.
- Monitor customer performance metrics and identify continuous improvement areas.
Technical Skills
- Understand FEMA products’ form, fit, function, and use in customer systems. Leverage this understanding to provide value by selecting optimized solutions, continuous improvement, and cost reduction opportunities.
- Function as a two-way technical resource for FEMA and customers.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues, propose innovative solutions, and make data-driven decisions.
- Proficiency in creating detailed technical documentation, reports, and specifications to effectively communicate design requirements and progress.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in business or engineering curriculum required. Engineering is preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in technical sales, product, or manufacturing engineering is preferred.
- Customer Travel will be required – 20-30% internationally and domestically.
- Must have a valid driver’s license. *(Subject to MVR check)
- Excellent written and oral communication, along with conflict management skills required. Strong negotiation and project management skills are preferred.
- Microsoft Office, CRM cloud and server-based operating systems, and industry-driven software systems.
